Students will choose a current event (something that has happened in the last 3 months) from a physical or online newspaper or news site to share with the class. This can be a local, state-wide, national, or global event. Students will present their current event on the date they sign up for along with the information as outlined below. This assignment is worth 15 points.

Please complete the following steps:
1) Sign up for a day to present here. Only add your name to ONE of the pink highlighted dates.
2) Make a copy of this scoring guide, add your name to the title, and move it to your shared folder.

- a) Sources
- Examples: Cedar County Republican, Bolivar Herald-Free Press, New York Times, US News & World Report, FoxNews, Time for Kids, NewsForKids.net, other kids' news sources, etc.
- Make sure it's NOT just a blog or some advertisement found on Facebook. It needs to be from a reputable news source. If you have a question about your source, ask BEFORE using it!
- b) Type of current event
- Choose an event that can be tied to the curriculum in some way. "Curriculum" can be interpreted as character education, careers, geography, world events, science, economics, etc.---really, the examples are endless. The content connection does NOT have to be social studies related. If you need some inspiration, look at the Missouri Learning Standards for the grade level you'd like to teach.
- Title of the marker = Your Name & Location of Story (not the newspaper it came from---the actual location of the story)
- Add a pin at the location of the story;
- Upload a picture of the geographical area; and
- Give the title of your current events story, the name of the newspaper/source, and the link (if applicable) in the box that opens below the picture after uploading.
On Your Presentation Day
5) Bring a physical copy of the article. Either print it out from the online source or cut it out of the newspaper (if it's yours--if it's not yours, make a copy first).

- Bringing up your marker on the Google My Map.
- Show your physical copy of the article, and describe it in a few sentences.
- Tell which grade level you'd share this with.
- Tell why you chose this particular article and how it can connect to the curriculum.
- What would you do as an activity to extend the learning from the article?
- Your presentation should be no more than 5 minutes long.
