Description:
In order for you to reflect on your reading and exploration of resources, you will complete 7 journal responses throughout the semester. See tentative schedule for specific due dates. Most journal responses will be open-ended to allow for personalization of responses and differentiation of material. Each response will be worth 10 points and will require you to write at least 250 words (but you CAN write more!). You will be completing all journal responses on the SAME Google document, so I will be able to easily give feedback directly on your responses. You will also be able to go back and look through your responses for use in other projects in this course.

Preparation for Writing Your Responses
1) Create a Google shared folder.
|
|
3) Make a copy of the journal response scoring guide. (See preview embedded below.)
- Add your name to the title.
- Move it to your shared folder.
- There is only ONE continuous scoring guide for all journal responses.
Writing Your Journal Responses
Include all of the following in each of your responses: (Due dates for responses can be found on the Tentative Schedule)
I want you to be able to choose HOW you respond to the resources because I believe that will show me more about who you are and what you learned. You will be completing all journal responses on the SAME Google doc, so I will be able to easily give feedback directly on your responses. You will also be able to easily go back and look through your responses for use in other projects in this course. You may choose how to respond from the following list:
You CANNOT choose ALL of the same thing. There are 7 journal responses, so I want you to try out at least 2 different types of responses so you can do the same with your own students as well. You will have to think creatively to figure out how to meet all the requirements for each journal response. You are still choosing 3 of the most important ideas of the resources and representing them in various ways. Don’t forget those 2 questions!
*****If you choose an artistic response, you will need to record yourself talking about your creation, so I can grade it. You can use the Screencastify extension or just a video/audio app on your phone, upload it to your shared folder, and put the link on your Journal Response Google doc.
####If you want some more information about how to do any of these options, just let me know.
- Title - Journal Response #(as indicated in the appropriate session) - Name of the response (as indicated in the appropriate session)
- Choose at least 3 of the most important aspects/ideas of the readings/resources you explored.
- For EACH aspect, describe why they are important, your personal reactions, and how they will impact you as a teacher. (This shows your ability to evaluate the readings and connect them to yourself now and in the future in your own classroom.)
- Include at least 2 questions you had while reading. This shows that you are an active, engaged reader and learner.

- Artistic response - physical (can be drawing, painting, collage, etc.)
- Artistic response - digital (same as physical, but all online)
- Video (can be live video or made from images with music)
- Audio (Record on your phone or use SoundCloud or another tool---just record yourself talking about your important ideas and questions)
- Infographic or picture collage (You can use Canva or Google Drawings or another tool.)
- Something you propose to me….I’d love to hear your ideas! Make sure and ask FIRST!
